Stash Love and Postcards

I haven’t finished the socks I’ve been working on yet, so here’s some more stash love. Happy Monday!

And something really nifty I came across yesterday. Gosh I wish I could recall who this info came from. I know if was from someone on Flickr. The site is called Postcrossing and it’s really interesting. You send postcards to random strangers all over the world and someone random will send you postcards too. It’s just something nice to do and who doesn’t love getting mail that isn’t junk or spam. Here are my first 5 cards. I was lucky to get all different countries such as Finland, China, Austria, Netherlands, and Germany.  The cards were picked for each person’s likes and wants.

A few updates

Posted in Accessories, Sock Club, Stash tagged , at 1:27 pm by Jennie

This past week of being sick made me realize how much I missed my knitting. I actually thought my love affair with it was over. The thought really freaked me out. Especially since I have a nice size sock stash. LOL. I kept trying to knit a few rows here and there but I was so tired from all the medicine and all I wanted to do was sleep. I lost a few days there. I’m still not fully back to my normal self, waiting for my voice to come back. I sound super squeaky and weird. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to wish me well. Your thoughts are deeply appreciated.

Now that things are slowly getting better, no worries, I still love knitting and it’s here to stay. Yippee! Alright, onward to a few updates…

Last weekend I had a great opportunity to go check out The Knitting Nest. Thanks to Janet for informing me about it, seeing as how I have no idea what goes on here in my own city. It is a cute little place with a nice cozy area to knit and chat. Kinda far for me to go on a regular basis but if I ever needed any cascade 220 in any color, they stock it all. There is an amazing wall of pure cascade goodness for ya’ll cascade lovers out there. I didn’t go home with any yarn since I’m more of a sock yarn lover right now. But I didn’t go empty handed. I snagged a cute little project bag and my current sock is in it now. The bag is by Knitting Ewe On The Go.

Here’s the latest Yarn Pirate Sock Club enhancement. This time around Georgia included some extra goodies. Two circular needles; US1 and US2. They are cute and pink. Don’t know how much I’ll like them since the cord isn’t quite as flexible as my current Knit Picks needles. The colorway is called Killer Bees. Perfect for the Hallow-day season. Can I just say that it is super hard to photograph neon colors. The yellow and green are actually neon in real life. And I mean super bright neon colors. Picture a green and yellow highlighter, that’s exactly how they look.

And finally, here’s what’s gonna be going on the needles next. This has been sitting in the stash for some time now and I think it would make a nice pair of Firestarters. I did sign up for the KAL, I really should cast on soon. LOL. The colorway is called Pantomime and I picked it up at The Loopy Ewe.

Have a good week. Off to take more meds.

A Big Thank You to my SP9

Posted in Presents at 9:03 pm by Jennie

The KnittyBoard SP9 comes to an end. This was first Secret Pal swap and things went pretty well. Thank you Cindi of Willis’ Knitting Ramblings for being such a great pal.
She made me some really nifty fingerless mitts. I’ve always wanted some but for some odd reason feel intimidated. Weird, I know.
I adore the lil’ ewe. Her name is Mollie, she’s from the Ewe and Me collection by Toni Goffe. Isn’t the mini sweater key chain super cute too?

Happy Friday!

Posted in Contests, Random Me at 8:49 am by Jennie

Good morning/afternoon/night everyone! Depending on when you get to this.

It looks like I’ve been tagged by Heather of Punky Purls and must pass on this meme. I’m feeling like a party pooper so I think I’m just going to post the rules and if anyone is interested in offering up some answers–> leave me a comment. There’s a little something in it for ya’ll if you do play along.

For the sake of having a really simple contest, post whatever [*ETA* truth(s) about yourself] that you want and [*then*] tell me what you favorite color(s) is/are [*for the prize*]. I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner and you’ll get some sock yarn in your fav color. How does that sound? Lets have this end on Tueday night 11:59pm Central time.

Here’s the meme info:

1. Link the one who tagged you
2. Tell 7 truths about yourself, something funny/different
3. Tag 7 people at the end of the blog
4. Leave a message in their blog telling them that they have been tagged

Feel free to pass the meme on to anyone. Have fun!

And since I’m sure you’re all dying to know a few truths about me, I’ll give you a sneak peek into my lil’ world. I’m a huge SciFi fan but not to the point where I can speak Klingon (which would be really cool if I could hehe). I think I’m more a fan of SciFi shows such as Battlestar Gallactica and Dr Who. LOL do I sound nerdy now? Hmm something else…this may sound a bit creepy but I love phlebotomy. I have a knack for drawing blood, heheh not my own or anything along those lines, just one of my duties in the hospital. Hmm I think that’s enough personal info for one day.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Conquered Waving Lace

Posted in Knitting, Socks tagged , , at 2:52 pm by Jennie

I have tried to knit the pattern at least 4 times. The pattern was originally going to be knit with my MadelineTosh Vintage Apron, but for some odd reason I could not get gauge. I tried it on 2.50mm needles and then 2.00mm needles. The first was too big and the second try it was too small. So I gave up and went with another pattern.

When I started with my Interlacement yarn I knew it had too much going on to use a really interesting detailed pattern and so the thought of waving lace came back. (Not to say that the waving lace pattern is at all simple.) I thought I’d start them off with 2.5mm again thinking the Interlacement yarn was thicker and that the pattern would finally work out. A few repeats in, I am disappointed to realize that it’s still too big. Not wanting to give up on this, I though, hmm lets go down to 2.00mm and so I did and am finally happy to report that they fit! If anyone out there has small feet and odd gauge problems, you can definitely get this pattern to work out. Oh and back to what I mentioned before, this is definitely not a super simple pattern. I kept miss-counting because the yarn overs threw me off. If possible, always try to count every few rows to make sure you’re where you’re suppose to be since I had to tink back quite a few times. Other than that, I had a good time with this pattern. And the repeats weren’t too hard to memorize, especially after a few mishaps. hehe.

Sock Club Stash

Posted in Knitting, Sock Club, Socks, Stash tagged , , , at 6:50 pm by Jennie

More stash love for ya on yet another fantastic Monday.

I’ve been a bit behind on posting my goodies from the sock clubs I’ve luckily been able to join. Here’s the first shipment of the Wool Girl Sock Club. I like it! Very pretty shades of blues, greens and purples. It’s a sport weight, so I don’t know what I’m gonna be doing with it. I may knit the pattern, but then again who knows, it’ll probably be in the stash queue for some time, hehe.

The yarn is really squishy.

Next, September’s Yarn Pirate Booty
It’s a Merino/Tencel blend and wow, this stuff is super soft and shiny. I’m really glad I joined this club. The colors may not be what I’d normally go for but this club has exposed me to a lot of different types of yarn blends/bases that are just amazing.

And last but not least, I do have to knitting to show. Yippee. And just in time for Socktoberfest 2007. I’ve already cast on its mate.
