Sock Clubs curb my spending.

Posted in Sock Club at 1:40 pm by Jennie

Ever since I joined a few sock clubs I’ve noticed that I spend a bit less on sock yarn purchases. I suppose it’s the fact that I know I will be getting a surprise sock yarn every month makes me rationalize not needing to buy more. lol. Though with the holidays around, I’ve seen quite a few fantastic sales that I just could not pass up; you’ll probably be seeing a bit more stash enhancement. hehe

Here are my latest beauties:

Yarn Pirate - Solstice Solstice

Spunky Eclectic - Irish Dreams Irish Dreams by Spunky Eclectic

Look at all the fantastic goodies, a cute magnet card, some yummy lavender soap, a double headed stitch marker, and some interesting Irish tea. I’m really glad I joined the WoolGirl Sock club.

Happy Wednesday! Oh and in case anyone is wondering, I have been working on my Firstarters, but I’ve been tweaking them a bit so you’ll have to wait and see when I finish them up.

Progress on the Firestarters

Posted in Knitting, Random Me, Socks at 6:43 pm by Jennie

As promised, an update on my Firestarters. Well, for sure one is going into the frog pond. I thought I’d made a good judgement call to omit one repeat of the cable pattern in the foot to compensate for my shorter feet but it still ended up a bit on the long side. I like my socks to fit snuggly. heheh snuggly. I also made a booboo on the second sock but I had made some more mods to the length and it now fits pretty darn good. Sadly I forgot to pay attention to the heel flap pattern because I was too busy watching tv and going with the flow of my knitting. Anywho here are some pics, I’ll let ya’ll decide.

Firestarter heel
First sock, I followed the pattern exactly except for omitting one cable repeat. It’s too loose a fit for me to be happy with…off to the frog pond.

Firestarter Mods
Second sock, great fit, notice the heel? heheh. I kinda like it so I think I’m just going to stick with a basic stockinette leg/cuff and just continue the cabling on the sides. What do ya’ll think?

firestarter comparison
And here are the two hanging out together before the first one gets a makeover.

Oh, and just a side note, sorry about the photo quality, I still haven’t had a chance to get my camera back from my brother. But I did get to play with my new camera phone, and for a camera phone, the photo quality isn’t too bad. Me likie my new phone a lot. I’m so slow with phones. I’ve never had one with a camera, hehe.

Stash Love

Posted in Knitting, Stash at 12:56 pm by Jennie

I’m a little sad I don’t have my camera so no new pics of anything. Therefore ya’ll get to see an old pic of some stash I never got around to sharing. I picked this up at Theloopyewe.com awhile back and I guess never got around to talking about it since I was a bit on a yarn buying frenzy.

Woolly Boully - Brooklyn Candy

Yarn: Woolly Boully Meanie superwash sock yarn
Color: Brooklyn Candy
80% superwash merino
20% nylon
This stuff is scrumptiously soft. Yum! I kinda wished I had joined the sock club because Jenny has great color sense.

I’m happy to report that I did start my firestarters, yippee! And after a few fumbles and a lot of reading the notes from the KAL, I was able to get the foot down. But it may go into the frog pond since this is my first toe-up experience and I’m not quite sure where you’re suppose to start the increases and what not seeing as how the pattern is written for and average sized woman’s foot, I’m a bit on the shorter side. But we’ll see. Once I get my camera back I’ll definitely keep ya posted.

Happy Tuesday!

Finally a pair of socks!

I can’t believe it took me so long to finish these socks for my Grandma. Being sick really put me behind. But they are done and I’m happy because she’s happy. Yay!!

Now we have matching socks. hehe. Conwy for me and a pair for her.
She didn’t want anything too flashy and preferred dark colors. It wasn’t a super fun knit since it’s so hard to see your stitches in black yarn. But they fit so I’m super happy.

Grandma's Knee High Conwys Conwy

(I did the same mods for my Conwy knee highs. Instead of decreasing every 8th row, I did it at the 12th row. I followed the patter and did the my usual Kitchener toe. Also since my Grandma has thinner calves I casted on 60 sts instead of the pattern’s 72 sts. If I was using Louet Gems to make another pair for myself I’d go with the 72 sts. LOL does this makes any sense?)

Pattern: Conwy from Knitting on the Road
Yarn: Louet Gems Fingering
Colorway: Black
Start: 10/5/07
Finished: 11/5/07
Needle: 32” Knit Picks circ Harmony 2.5mm/US1
CO: 60sts then decreased to 48sts
Total Leg Length: ~14 inches
Total Foot Length: ~9.25 inches
Just used two skeins with some left over.

I’ve also been itching to knit up a few scarves. The Besotted Scarf from helloyarn.com has been calling to me since last year but I was a bit intimidated with it. Now, not so much. I’m really loving the process and cablely goodness.

Besotted Scarf

ETA: The Knit Picks Harmony needles are a good investment. The tips are nice and pointy and I like the crazy colors to them. The price is even better. hehe.

Tarot you, Tarot me.

Posted in Random Me at 12:26 pm by Jennie

I came across this neat-o questionnaire from for the love of gauge. It’s so interesting how a few questions could sum up bits of you. This is a little piece of me:

You are The Lovers

Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.

The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.

Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that’s actually more apt than “Lovers.” Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can’t understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that the you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.
