Crochet Dreams…

Posted in Crochet, Knitting at 6:33 pm by Jennie

For some reason I’ve been having these crazy urges to crochet. I kinda want a granny square style afghan. I haven’t really thought about crocheting for a very long time, but I guess I’ve been bit by the bug. I don’t know if I just need to get a little bit of crochet out of my system and then things will get back on track or what. But I’ve already done a few granny squares. hehe.

Granny Squares

I used these youtube videos to help me learn how to crochet the granny squares.

How to Crochet 2
How to Crochet 3

I’ve already picked out a few patterns but I tend to have finishing issues when it comes to knitted items other than socks. So I don’t know. Maybe my crochet obsession will pass.

Anywho, it’s taken me about 2 years but I finally finished my Irish Hiking Scarf by Hello Yarn. See what I was saying? I would only work a few rows and then put it away to hibernate and take it out every once in awhile to do a few more. I guess I became bored with it. Who knows. I used Knit Picks Elegance, a little less than 4 balls (skeins, however it is termed. Down here in Texas I’ve always learned to call those as skeins, just like all the acrylic yarns are skeins too. And balls are actual balls. Yeah I know, totally rambling) in the grass color. Will I be using it? Probably not any time soon since we’ve been getting 80+ degree weather. Over all a really simple cable project. It helped me practice cabling without a cable needle.

Last but definitely not least, a sock. Just one. I hope to be starting it’s partner in crime sometime today. I really like the simplicity of a 4 stitch pattern. And yes, it’s from Sensational Knitted Socks. It doesn’t look so fantastic on the blocker but I really like how the sock looks on my foot.

ETA: Opps, forgot to mention it’s the Araucania Multy color 310 that I previously knit up a swatch footie.

Have a great egg salad week!!

every once in awhile, I get the crochet bug too. it’s a nice change from knitting, I guess 🙂 one way to make a blanket that has less finishing is if you just make a HUGE granny square, changing colors every row or every other row – then you don’t have to sew a ton of squares together 🙂

And I thought taking two months to finish a scarf was too long. 😉

I love the idea of the following conversation: “How did you learn to crochet?””From Youtube.”

I’ve wanted a granny square afghan too. I’ll have to take a look at the You Tube links.

I have a scarf like that – it has never been used wither!

The granny squares look great! I love the color you chose. I think it is just fine to knit and crochet! Sometimes one is better suited to a project than the other. 🙂

Congrats on finishing the Irish Hiking Scarf! I have had mine on the needles for 3 years and can’t seem to get motivated to finish it:( I also love Youtube tutorials, I couldn’t have done the ‘My So Called Scarf without them!
